Get ready to explore one of Texas’s most iconic creatures, the Texas Horned Lizard! Presented by Membership Officer of the Horned Lizard Conservation Society, Mrs. Lynn Seman, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the fascination of these spikey little lizards. Learn about the conservation efforts put into place to restore the glory of our state reptile, along with its remarkable defense mechanisms and relevance to our ecosystem!

Explore the biology of “Horny Toads,” from their diet to their significance to the Lone Star State’s habitat and ecological picture. As voracious insectivores, they help regulate populations of ants and other insects, playing a vital role in maintaining ecosystem health. Learn about their ominous blood-squirting eye-ducts, along with their fight to survive!

Sippers will learn about how they can protect Texas Horned Lizards through conservation efforts and habitat preservation. Despite their resilience, “Horny Toads” face numerous threats, including habitat loss and pesticide use. Mrs. Lynn will investigate with participants the importance of these iconic Texas reptilian residents and why we are their best hope for survival and salvation.

Lynn Seman, a retired Math and Science teacher with 32 years of experience in Texas Public Schools, brings a wealth of knowledge to her work. She has been a certified member of the Rolling Plains Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist for 18 years, dedicating her time to organizations such as River Bend Nature Center, the Horned Lizard Conservation Society, and The Whiteside Museum of Natural History. Lynn holds a Master’s degree in Multidisciplinary Science from Texas Tech University and actively participates in the Texas Stream Team monitoring program.

Is it BYOB?

No, wine and beer are distributed by a TABC-certified bartender. Please bring your ID with you to the event.

Do you have to be 21 and up to attend?

Yes.

I don’t have a PayPal account, how can I pay?

We have several ways of accepting payments! You can come to the Nature Gift Shop at RBNC any time during business hours, we can take your payment over the phone, you can send in a check, or you can check out using PayPal as a guest.
