The Geology and Soils of North Texas

This lecture provides an introduction to the geologic history and fossils of North Texas. Topics include plate tectonics and sea level change, rock formations of the area, and common vertebrate and invertebrate fossils. Participants will also learn about the properties of our soils and sources of water available in the area.

Pamela Stephens is Associate Professor and Chair of Department of Geosciences at Midwestern State University. She received a B.S. in Geology and M.S. in Biology at Midwestern State University, and a Ph.D. in Geosciences at the University of Texas at Dallas. The courses she teaches include Historical Geology, Invertebrate Paleobiology, and Sedimentology and Stratigraphy. Her research focuses on the use of foraminifera, unicellular organisms similar to an amoeba with a shell, for ecological assessment in Texas estuaries.
