River Bend has a new Barred Tiger Salamander named Chappy, come on by and check him out! The barred tiger salamander is one of the largest land dwelling salamanders, and is capable of growing up to 2 feet. They are amphibians and spend much of their time underground in expansive underground burrows. There are several different varieties and are located all over the US and Canada. Their development consists of an egg, followed by a larva stage which then undergoes metamorphosis into an adult salamander. As a larva, they have gills and are completely dependent on water for survival. As an adult, they have lungs but still need moisture. They also can live up to 20 years! For more info click the pic!
